Bananas, don’t we just love them. A long curved fruit which grows in clusters and has soft pulpy flesh and yellow skin when ripe and ready for the offer. Lady Godiva has had her fair share of bananas. Banana bread, banana muffins, banana cream pie… I even endured a few banana republics in my time. Please hold your horses, as thou banana shalt never be smirked upon again.
GREEN WHISPER
Textiles-to-textiles and waste-to-textiles recycling are key areas of innovation where start-ups have begun to partner with large brands and retailers to help shift manufacturing processes toward a circular model. Several new technologies are being developed to enable waste textiles to be broken down and turned into new raw inputs for clothing manufacture. A company that is at the forefront of sustainable design innovation is Green Whisper. The essence of Green Whisper is to create sustainable products with zero impact on the environment. They utilise the residue of agriculture and create products for daily use, giving their customers and clients an opportunity to contribute their bit in protecting the environment.
BANANA FABRIC
It is been estimated that 75% of the banana residue is not processed. To address this problem they are extracting banana fibre from the pseduostem by a simple process which does not require much resources thus has a very low carbon footprint. This pseudostem is of no use after the banana fruit is harvested. The fabric produced from this fibre has unique qualities and can be used to manufacture various textile based products including premium quality bedsheets, cushions and upholstery fabric, carpets, rugs and curtains.
Remarkable indeed — next time Lady Godiva comes riding through your local village, you might just spot me wearing a Green Whisper couture creation... naturally with lots of skin visible.
